Organizational History

First People’s Center for Education became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2004. During the start-up phase, FPCFE received federal set-aside funding from the Department of Education to prove our model. In later years, FPCFE received funding from the Wyoming Department of Education to bolster its efforts.

Government funding helped FPCFE establish partnerships with 28 schools in Montana, Wyoming, Washington, and Alaska. As these schools began to see improvement as a result of FPCFE’s methods, their trust in us and their commitment and dedication to continue working with FPCFE increased dramatically. This trust and commitment prompted leadership from every partner school to begin moving from government-funded service to a fee-based arrangement in 2009.

FPCFE accomplishes all of this with a lean organization. Our seven-member staff operates from a small office in Sheridan, Wyoming.
